Export Control & Sanctions Specialist

Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester – Hybrid working available.

Are you an experienced Export Control & Sanctions professional ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have a strong understanding of international trade regulations and a passion for ensuring compliance in complex, fast-paced environments? Are you confident working across teams and engaging with stakeholders at all levels? If so, come and join EDF as an Export Control & Sanctions Specialist!

The Opportunity

As an Export Control & Sanctions Specialist, you’ll ensure EDF’s compliance with local and international trade regulations, including export control and sanctions, by developing and maintaining licensing frameworks and securing the necessary export control licences. You’ll support a wide range of internal stakeholders—such as IT, HR, Supply Chain, Engineering, Project Managers, and R&D—by aligning licensing needs with business requirements.

You’ll act as a point of contact for trade compliance queries, building strong relationships across the organisation and assisting with the development of supporting processes, procedures, and training programmes. With a proactive approach to learning, you’ll engage with technical areas of the business and help shape and implement a robust trade compliance strategy.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive salary and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will provide expert guidance to EDF’s businesses on meeting UK and international export control and sanctions requirements. This includes supporting the design and implementation of compliance processes, managing licence applications, and advising on operational trade control needs across multiple functions, such as Supply Chain, Project Management, HR, and R&D.
  • Collaboration will be central to your role, as you assess transactions and technical data for regulatory impact, maintain accurate compliance records, and help shape digital transformation projects in trade compliance. You’ll contribute to training delivery, support internal and external audits, and lead or assist in investigations to resolve non-compliance issues. Reporting obligations to UK and international authorities will also be a key responsibility, requiring strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.

In addition, you’ll stay informed of evolving legislation, contribute to strategic compliance planning, and engage with stakeholders at all levels, including legal advisors and government bodies. Your role will also involve representing EDF in industry forums, maintaining strong internal relationships, and supporting the Export Control & Sanctions Manager to ensure a consistent and effective compliance programme.

Who you are

  • You’ll have proven experience in export control, licensing, and international trade regulations, including UK OGELs/SIELs/F680, EU dual-use regulations, and US ITAR/EAR and Part 810/110 laws. You’ll be confident working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment where your knowledge directly impacts operational decisions and compliance practices. Experience with third-party screening tools and the UK SPIRE system is highly desirable.
  • You’ll have the ability to interpret complex regulations, provide commercially pragmatic advice, and make accurate export jurisdiction and classification assessments across services, software, technology, and products. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside excellent communication abilities that allow you to translate technical requirements for a wide audience. A solid understanding of trade terms and contractual clauses will support you in negotiating compliance obligations with both internal teams and external partners.
  • We’re looking for someone motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with the confidence to influence across all levels of the organisation and communicate effectively with government authorities. You’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities, identifying improvements in compliance practices, and supporting regulatory change.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Clearance (SC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 5 years.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
