Layout Tools and Methods Expert

Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)

Are you motivated by shaping how complex engineering design is delivered on some of the UK’s most significant nuclear projects? Do you enjoy being recognised as the technical authority that others turn to for guidance, quality, and consistency? At EDF, we believe that impact comes from expertise, ownership, and collaboration – because “Success is Personal”, and the value you bring genuinely matters.

The Opportunity

As a Layout Tools and Methods Expert, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of layout design across major nuclear new‑build programmes, directly supporting the journey towards An Electric Britain. Your expertise will influence how layout tools, CAD standards, and methodologies are defined, applied, and continuously improved, helping ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery across complex nuclear island projects.

EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design‑replication feasibility and related engineering activities.

You’ll join us on a salary of £65,000- £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience). This role is based at #AztecWest in #Bristol, with regular collaboration on site and occasional travel to other UK locations and France to engage with international teams and stakeholders.

Working within the EPR‑E Layout discipline, you’ll be a recognised technical authority for layout tools and methods, developing and delivering CAD training, advising on best practice, and supporting high‑quality 1D, 2D and 3D design delivery. You’ll contribute to replication strategies for future projects, mentor teams across the UK and Europe, and play a visible part in maintaining nuclear professionalism, safety, and engineering excellence on projects that will provide reliable low‑carbon power for decades.

Who You Are

We’re looking for an experienced Layout Tools and Methods Expert who brings confidence, technical depth, and a structured approach to complex design environments. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

Established experience in design and/or layout activities within large industrial projects (such as civil, layout, piping, HVAC or electrical disciplines)
In‑depth knowledge of general layout rules and principles for major industrial projects
Advanced, hands‑on expertise in AVEVA E3D, PDMS and Navisworks
Fluency in English, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and lead technical discussions
Proven experience supporting, assuring, and improving the quality of 1D, 2D and 3D design activities across multiple teams
Experience advising on standards, processes, methodologies and tools, and supporting the resolution of cross‑discipline issues related to CAD and model quality

What You’ll Be Doing

Developing, maintaining, and delivering Layout CAD training and knowledge‑sharing activities
Develop or optimize in house 3D tools in adequation with the needs of the teams to support collective efficiency
Acting as a technical authority on layout tools, methods, standards and best practice
Supporting and assuring the quality of 1D, 2D and 3D layout design across projects
Providing insights on risks, issues, and improvements related to 3D model quality and maintenance
Collaborating with UK and international stakeholders, contractors, and partner organisations to support consistent delivery

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £65,000 - £70,000 per annum dependent on experience, potential for an annual bonus, and a market‑leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
