Layout Team Lead

Aztec West, Bristol - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you experienced in the nuclear industry, with knowledge of 3D modelling? Do you have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple interfaces and meet deadlines? If so, come and join EDF as a Layout Team Lead!

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As a Layout Team Lead, you'll oversee a team of Layout Engineers, coordinating the production of deliverables, tracking progress using the Scheduling Tool, and ensuring technical accuracy and quality through established review processes. You’ll manage workload distribution, ensure the use of EPR-E Processes & Tools, and lead coordination efforts with counterparts in the UK, France, and Germany, while building strong stakeholder relationships to support team development and effective resource management.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £67,000 to £72,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

  • You'll manage a team of 8-12 Layout Engineers, coordinating the production of deliverables and any required rework in line with the schedule, cost, and quality set by the Building Manager. This includes tracking delivery through the Scheduling Tool (Paladin) and delegating tasks based on team members' skills, capacity, and current workload to ensure efficient operation. You’ll also provide technical expertise to your team, ensuring the accuracy and quality of deliverables through proper review and approval processes.
  • In this role, you'll ensure your team effectively applies relevant EPR-E Processes & Tools, such as UK-DC, IDT, NCR, and WeCAD, while collaborating with other discipline leads and external partners. This includes identifying and specifying requirements for the relevant scope, and interfacing with other groups (e.g., layout, civil, systems, hazards, and JDO) as necessary. You’ll also lead coordination with counterparts in the UK, France, and Germany, ensuring smooth communication and addressing any cross-team issues.
  • Additionally, you'll escalate any resource conflicts to the Building Manager or Group Lead as needed and maintain strong ties with the Layout Discipline Lead. This will help support your team in terms of competency development, knowledge sharing, resourcing, and onboarding, ensuring the team stays aligned with best practices and tools.

Who you are

  • You will have experience in the nuclear industry, ideally on projects like HPC or SZC, you'll bring a strong understanding of Layout competency. Your knowledge of engineering design sequences, interfaces, and general layout rules will allow you to effectively contribute to complex projects within this highly technical environment. Prior experience working with PDMS and/or E3D would be an advantage, as these are the tools used for our master 3D model.
  • You’ll possess the ability to manage multiple interfaces and work efficiently to meet commitments and deadlines, demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills. With strong communication and interpersonal abilities, you’ll effectively engage with stakeholders and maintain key relationships throughout the organisation.
  • We're looking for someone who shows leadership and a proactive mindset. You’ll promote a questioning attitude and encourage continuous improvement within your team.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
