Investigation Specialist

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of industrial and nuclear safety? At Hinkley Point C, we are looking for two exceptional individuals to join our Investigations team, each bringing a unique skillset to help us learn from the past and build a safer, smarter future. Whether your expertise lies in health and safety or engineering quality, this is your chance to make a real impact on one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

We currently have two exciting Investigation Specialist roles available. One is ideal for someone with a strong health and safety background, perhaps you're already a Coordinator with NEBOSH qualifications and a passion for creating safer environments. The other is perfect for someone with a technical mindset, ideally from an engineering quality background, who enjoys analysing reports, questioning specifications, and ensuring equipment meets rigorous standards. Both roles are central to our mission of continuous improvement and learning, and both report to the Site Investigation Learning Lead within the Safety & Schedule Assurance Directorate.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is from £55,000 we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll lead investigations from start to finish, ensuring that every step, from gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, crafting corrective actions through to embedding lessons learned, is managed with precision and care. Your work will directly influence how we manage risk and improve safety across the project.

In the health and safety-focused role, you will bring your practical experience to the forefront, guiding investigations into incidents and observations, and helping to embed a culture of safety across the site. If you are NEBOSH-qualified and enthusiastic about proactive safety, this is your chance to lead from the front.

In the engineering quality role, you will take a more technical investigative approach—reviewing engineering reports, questioning non-conformances, and investigating when there are opportunities to improve, for the benefit of the Hinkley Point C Project but also for the wider International Nuclear Power industry. You will be the analytical member of the team, ensuring our technical standards are never compromised and lessons are learned to drive improvement within our unique nuclear industry. Your Investigations will be shared with the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Who You Are

You bring proven experience in leading investigations, with a strong grasp of investigation techniques and a passion for continuous improvement. Whether your background is in health and safety or engineering quality, you’re confident working independently on complex cases and guiding others to deliver their best.

You’re a clear communicator, both in writing and in person, and you thrive in collaborative, cross-functional environments. You may hold a degree or equivalent in a relevant field, and qualifications such as the NEBOSH General Certificate are highly valued. Experience in regulated or high-risk industries is essential, and familiarity with nuclear, construction, or engineering environments is a plus.

You’re analytical, IT-savvy, and calm under pressure, ready to make a real difference. Whether you’re on site or behind the scenes, your insights will help us build a culture where safety, quality, and learning go hand in hand.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
