Fluid System Engineer

Job description

System Engineer

Location: Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)

Ready to help design the systems that power the next generation of nuclear reactors? Inspired by solving complex engineering challenges that shape safe and reliable operations? At EDF, Success is Personal, and your expertise will help deliver projects that matter.

The Opportunity

EDF's EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) programme is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.

As a System Engineer, you’ll support essential system design for Hinkley Point C and help the transition towards An Electric Britain. You’ll work with experts across engineering, contributing directly to how key systems operate, perform and meet rigorous safety expectations.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, this role is based at the HPC Site in #Bridgwater with hybrid working. You’ll also take occasional trips to Europe, typically twice a year, to collaborate with international engineering teams.

You’ll grow your skills through high quality engineering work, supporting design replication for Sizewell C and helping solve technical challenges. You’ll learn from specialists and contribute to continuous improvement across nuclear standards, design quality and safe system operation.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a System Engineer who enjoys technical problem solving and clear communication. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

  • Background in science or engineering
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Experience in nuclear system design
  • Knowledge of nuclear codes, standards and tools
  • Understanding of EPR design, operation and safety rule
  • Excellent communication skills

What You’ll Be Doing

• Producing system design documentation and safety related reports
• Creating P&IDs, thermal calculations and system sizing activities
• Defining equipment and instrumentation requirements
• Supporting safety case development and engagement with regulators
• Managing technical issues and contributing to continuous improvement

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
