Environment Engineer

Job description

Ready to make a real impact on how environmental standards shape a new generation of nuclear energy? Join us at Hinkley Point C, where your expertise will help build and protect a more sustainable future. At EDF, Success is Personal.

The Opportunity

As a Pre-Operations Environment Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the environmental capability for one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. You’ll help set the standards for environmental compliance and performance, influencing safe and responsible operations for years to come, supporting our journey towards An Electric Britain.

You’ll join us on a competitive salary depending on knowledge, skills & experience. This role is based across our #HPC site and associated offices (#AztecWest, #SatelliteDeliveryCentre #GloucesterBusinessPark), with a hybrid pattern of three days on site each week. In future, this role will transition into full-time on-site working at #HPC.

Working across technical and safety teams, you’ll gain exposure to diverse disciplines while building expertise in environmental management. From influencing design and commissioning to preparing operational readiness, your work will directly support long-term environmental protection and compliance.

Who You Are

We’re looking for an Environment Engineer who can work independently, influence stakeholders, and build strong working relationships across complex teams. You’re proactive, collaborative, and confident communicating environmental requirements across a large organisation. To be shortlisted, you need to offer…

A strong understanding of environmental management arrangements and ISO14001
Knowledge of UK environmental regulations, including environmental permitting, waste, COSHH, oil storage and F-Gas
Demonstrable experience working in environmental compliance or environmental management roles
Experience influencing stakeholders and working collaboratively across multiple teams
Ability to produce or contribute to environmental documentation such as procedures, specifications or guidance
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will ordinarily require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting the development and implementation of the HPC environmental programme
Producing operational environmental documentation, procedures and training materials
Contributing to environmental readiness activities for people, plant and processes
Advising on environmental compliance across design, construction and commissioning phases
Promoting environmental best practice across nuclear, industrial and radiological safety areas

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a competitive salary depending on knowledge, skills & experience, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

Join us and find your success at EDF!

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
