Role Purpose:

  • As an Environmental Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, promoting sustainability, and managing environmental risks across site operations. You will support the Construction 
  • Design and Management / Environment & Sustainability (CDM/E&S) 
  • Manager in coordinating and controlling activities related to environmental aspects, with particular attention to interfaces between contractors and operational areas of the project. 


Accountabilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Accountable for supporting the implementation and ongoing compliance of site activities with relevant environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements. 
     
  • E&S Plan Implementation: Responsible for ensuring that the company and site-specific Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) Plan, associated standards, and work instructions are effectively communicated, understood, and applied across relevant activities. 
     
  • Subcontractor Management: Responsible for monitoring and managing environmental aspects at key interface points between subcontractors and operational areas to minimise environmental risk and prevent non-compliance. 
     
  • Incident and Non-Conformance Support: Assist in the investigation, reporting, and close-out of environmental incidents and non-conformances, ensuring lessons learned are captured and communicated. 
     
  • Continuous Improvement: Accountable for identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, promote sustainability, and contribute to a culture of environmental responsibility. 
     
  • Environmental Risk Management: Support the identification, assessment, and control of environmental risks across all site operations, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are in place and effective. 
     
  • Environmental Advisory and Analytical Support: Provide a comprehensive range of advisory and analytical services. Undertake analytical assessments of environmental performance data (e.g. emissions, waste, water use, incidents) to inform decision-making and drive continual improvement. 

 

Key Deliverables:

The Environmental Advisor will be required to carry out the following activities: 
 
• Compliance & Monitoring: Support the E&S Manager in ensuring all site activities align with the company’s Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) Plan, as well as site-specific standards and work instructions.  
• Subcontractor Engagement: Assist in the creation, review, and development of environmental documents ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and project requirements. 
• Interface Management: Provide environmental oversight at key interface points between contractors and between construction and operational zones, ensuring environmental risks are controlled and communicated effectively.
• Conduct Environmental Assessments: Perform detailed environmental impact assessments (EIAs) to identify potential environmental effects of projects and suggest mitigation strategies.  
• Environmental Controls: Promote the implementation of best practices in environmental protection, pollution prevention, and sustainable resource use across the site. 
• Support Audits and Inspections: Assist in the planning and delivery of environmental audits, inspections, and compliance checks to ensure effective implementation of control measures and identify opportunities for improvement. 
• Reporting: Contribute to regular environmental reporting, including incident tracking, non-conformance management, and performance indicators. 
• Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure environmental considerations are fully integrated into project delivery. 
• Training and Awareness: Participate in HSE meetings, toolbox talks, and deliver regular training sessions to raise awareness of environmental issues, prevent incidents and promote sustainable practices. 
• The role requires occasional weekend/ evening working to support site operations and ensure continuous environmental oversight. 
• Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years. 

 

Minimum Qualifications/Experience 

  • Experience as an environmental advisor, ideally in the construction sector 
     
  • PQTP demonstrating 1-2 years' experience working in environmental management and awareness of 14001 environmental management systems desirable but not essential.  
     
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in an environmental discipline (or similar) 
     
  • Driving licence 
     
  • Construction Industry experience.
