Area Construction Lead

Pay: £517.53 per day (PAYE) - £718.01 per day (Umbrella)
Location: Hinkley Point C is a nuclear site, based in West Somerset, 15 miles from Bridgwater.


Job Purpose / Overview


The Area Construction Lead will be responsible for planning and integrating all aspects of the safe delivery, both in an industrial and nuclear safety context, of a significant geographical area of works on the Hinkley Point C project, ensuring the responsibilities of the principal contractor are achieved.


Principal Accountabilities


• Ensuring that detailed plans are developed to a facility and or area basis which integrate, co-ordinate and sequence work activities to achieve the optimum construction sequence, paying particular attention to contractor interfaces.
• Enabling the project construction activities in compliance with our established processes and procedures and licencing conditions.
• Looking ahead to identify risks and developing mitigating options in sufficient time to prevent a negative impact on the construction site performance.
• Implementing cross cutting reviews of work scope where the interfaces in areas are intersected by many difference contractors.
• Ensuring that conventional and nuclear safety considerations are recognised as essential to the success of the project and built into the planning processes.
• Developing a plan which clearly identifies site need dates for critical equipment and materials and implementing monitoring processes to give early warning of any threat or risk to meeting the need dates and developing mitigating actions in time to avoid any impacts to site activities.
• Developing detailed access routes for personnel and equipment, identifying suitability of the access routes, impacts to other work activities and identification of temporary access openings for equipment installation.
• Implementing a construction build philosophy that recognizes the key approach of design by system, maximize productivity by bulk area build and transition to system completion for turnover.
• Integrating the supply chain partners' resources to maximize their expertise and skill set when developing the schedule and construction strategies to ensure schedule ownership and best practice implementation
• Liaise with the Construction Planning team and multi-disciplinary teams to advise of any issues that come to light that should be addressed contractually such as; issuing required notices and matters relating to changes/variations


Dimensions


• The post holder will be based between the Site Command Centre at HPC site and be required to attend occasional meetings and workshops at the Delivery Command Centre in Bristol, and may be required to travel to other company locations in the UK and possibly Europe as required.


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience


• Broad knowledge of Civil Engineering Design, Commercial and Construction delivery, and the integration of these activities with other trades.
• Experience across many types of EPC contracts, specifically knowledge of the NEC and FIDIC contracts
• A strong delivery focused mind-set is required with a good understanding of project planning processes and the ability to identify and resolve complex interfaces.
• Detailed and wide range of knowledge in construction techniques with high technical expertise across many types of construction and forms of contract, specifically the NEC ECC and FIDIC contract.
• Management of strategic planning developing construction sequencing and recovery plans.
• Ability to work collaboratively and in an integrated team environment and communicate with wider project stakeholders effectively
• Proven experience in the delivery of large complex construction projects to required quality, budget and schedule
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters
• Ability to produce informative, concise reports
• Working understanding of the post holder's obligations under CDM Regulations
• Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent in Construction Management or related subject


Desirable


• Experience of operating in a high security environment advantageous
• Experience within the Nuclear environment is advantageous but can be off-set by demonstrable experience within Civil Engineering or Construction
• Knowledge of French can be an advantage
