Job Responsibilities
Ever wondered how massive projects like Sizewell C are planned, priced, and delivered? As an Estimating Apprentice , you'll be right at the heart of the action, learning how to develop accurate cost estimates for one of the UK's most exciting infrastructure projects. This isn't just a job-it's the first step in a rewarding career in estimating, construction, or project management.
Here's what you'll get to do:
- Work alongside experienced Estimators to develop first-principles estimates for the Civil Works Program, ensuring every pound is accounted for.
- Review drawings and specifications to create costing sheets for materials, labour, and equipment-helping to shape the future of the project.
- Learn how to assess design options and value solutions , ensuring the project is both cost-effective and high-quality.
- Use industry-leading software like Candy Estimating Software and RIB Cost X to develop pricing and bills of quantities.
- Collaborate with project teams and the supply chain to understand methodologies and ensure estimates are realistic and achievable.
- Support presentations and negotiations , learning how to justify pricing to senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Track changes to estimates and budgets as the project evolves, gaining hands-on experience in project management.
This apprenticeship is your chance to earn while you learn , gaining practical experience and a fully funded qualification in estimating or a related field. By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have the skills and confidence to take the next step in your career-whether that's as an Estimator, Project Manager, or another role in the construction industry.
