Sizewell C (SZC) is vital to the UK's future energy strategy. As the second of the UK's next generation of nuclear power stations, SZC is both high profile and highly complex.

 

Its delivery will rely not only on innovative engineering and construction but also on the most vital Leadership qualities among its senior leadership team. The role is to provide leadership to the project controls across the CWA to ensure the effective delivery of the entire Civils Programme of SZC while recognising and influencing the programme's impacts on the more comprehensive Project. 

 

The Project Controls Manager's role is to implement the strategy, managing, and maintaining project controls within the agreed constraints on one or more Sections of the project, including controls for programme, productivity and time and time and cost integrated controls in the form of Earned Value Management. This post will ensure that control is in accordance with all safety, quality, time, and cost parameters to meet the project's needs. 

 

The Project Controls Manager reports directly into part of the Enabling & Earth Works section within the PMO Function.

Qualifications & Experience

•    Leading project controls on complex and mega infrastructure projects and programmes of works working for leading international tier 1 contractors.
•    APM PMQ, APMG Project Planning and Control Practitioner or equivalent
•    MRISC preferred.
•    Experience running contract, cost and EVM systems e.g., PRISM, Unifier and InEight.


Principle accountabilities, activities and decisions

•    Delivery of the project controls requirements, ensuring compliance across the CWA for Project Controls adoption.
•    Leads in matrix structure Section project controls on the delivery of change within Project Controls and leadership for project controls, including the strategic direction, vision and management plan to deliver project controls.
•    Lead coordination between PMO functions and delivery sections to enable controls.
•    Accountable for and managing the project controls function on one or more Sections of the Civils Work Alliance of the SZC project.
•    Actively participates in the CWA's PMO Leadership Team.
•    Creates an environment for exceptional team performance to ensure the teams, roles, skills and behaviour are aligned with the business objectives and project requirements.
•    People management, recruitment, organisation, development, coaching and mentoring.

 

Programme controls

•    Introduces, and leads project controls on one or more Sections, including integrated programme and productivity management.
•    Implement the Civils Work Programme defined work breakdown structure (WBS), cost breakdown structure (CBS), organisation breakdown structure (OBS) and all other associated coding structures that facilitate project segmentation, management, and reporting.
•    Lead the development and implementation of the earned value management (EVM) and reporting system for all Section level cost and time aspects and provides constructive recommendations to mitigate deficiencies and influence Section performance and positive outcomes.
•    Implementation, and maintenance of a Project Controls Execution plan to deliver the Employer's Work Information requirement. 
•    Leads generation of all types of progress and performance reports including report definitions, templates, metrics, trends, forecast and recommendations.
•    Leads on establishing and maintaining systems for reporting and forecasting.
•    Ownership and delivery of the process of managing change within contractual boundaries, including the analysis of the change impact.


Project management systems and techniques

•    Embraces and manages the integrated project controls systems and software for the CWA.
•    Promotion of digital tools and implementation of automation through digital business systems.
•    Assist and liaison with other relevant functions within the CWA in identifying, sourcing, implementing, and managing the integrated project controls systems and software on the CWA.
•    Liaison with the IT & Digital and IM functions for alignment and integration with other project management systems in the CWA project.


H&SE

•    Recognised as a champion for HSE through their commitment and passion to lead the Project HSE agenda, not only within their teams but across the project.
•    Empowers and influences teams, enrolling all stakeholders to own the HSE agenda and to challenge and change working practices to improve safety performance across the project.
•    Engages effective communication and feedback to ensure a consistent approach across all stakeholders consistent with SZC CWA policies.
