The Opportunity

EDF has an exciting new opportunity to recruit a Financial Planning & Reporting Project Accountant at our Hinkley Point C Project, Europe’s largest infrastructure project. 

This role is an integral role within the HPC Financial Planning & Reporting team and makes a significant contribution to support the HPC Project, meeting the needs of the HPC Project at different development stages as well as key stakeholders such as Project Controls, Finance Control Managers & EDF Group.  HPC Project is a very fast-paced, high intensity work environment that will allow the individual to build and develop skills quickly. 

As a Financial Planning & Reporting Project Accountant (HPC), you will be key to leading and delivering many projects as the HPC project evolves on top of business as usual activities such as devising the Medium-Term Plan (MTP), producing board packs and challenging and supporting the business within the financial reporting and planning framework, as shareholders’ and stakeholders’ requirements evolve.

You will ensure the integrity of the financial planning & reporting environment (process, procedures and data) and support the implementation and improvement of HPC financial planning & reporting processes, ensuring “best practice”.

You will be required to interface with HPC Project stakeholders in order to maintain one single source of the truth, provide support to help understand the financials, the explanatory narrative and to contribute a healthy challenge where appropriate to the project performance.

The Role

Principal Accountabilities


  • Leading and delivering key operational requirements such as building a SAP framework
  • Devising and maintaining a fixed asset register
  • Continuously improve/implement efficiencies to automate actual, planning and forecasting tools through PowerBi, Anaplan and RPA
  • Cover for Anaplan modelling (training will be provided)
  • Providing accounting advice and analytical support to ad hoc projects
  • Produce accurate and robust forecasts (MTP, E1, LE2, LE3)
  • Cashflow reporting and commentary including working capital analysis
  • Support with preparation of board packs and corporate requirements
  • Maintaining and ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet for all HPC companies
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure substantiation of financial statements by providing key analysis
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the projects operations and construction schedule to be able to put narrative around the numbers
  • Responsible for documenting, updating processes and procedures as well as maintaining for all new and emerging changes
  • Support delivery of Statutory Accounts, to time and quality, working closely with the EDF Energy Corporate team who will support the production of the accounts
  • Support strategic decision making through complex operational and financial analysis
  • Ensure strong relationships with Finance Business partners including regular catch ups and to help improve data integrity

The Skills



  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW etc.) or individual suitably qualified by experience
  • Skilled in planning, budgeting & forecasting
  • Experience and knowledge of the SAP financial systems and structure
  • Ability to co-ordinate financial activities (e.g. monthly reporting or business planning) across a large organisation
  • Producing and analysing Operational Financial statements 
  • Strong management information analysis and reporting, presentation, problem solving and decision support skills
  • Proven ability to build effective working level relationships across functions including at a senior level
  • Strong numerical, analytical and financial modelling skills
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting standards and company policies
  • Identify key issues and being able to prioritise effectively



  • Previous experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Financial Modelling skills
  • Previous experience preparing Board reports
  • Project experience working on large scale construction infrastructure
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of the energy sector
