Lead Construction Scheduler - Sizewell C

Location: London
Employment type: The role will initially be offered on a 12 month fixed-term contract basis, but will likely become permanent once project achieves final investment decision (FID)
Salary: Starting from £70,000 plus benefits


The Opportunity
 

Our exciting Sizewell C (SZC) project – a proposed new nuclear power station to be built on the Suffolk coast - would provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support Britain’s Net Zero aim by 2050.  


As Lead Construction Scheduler you’ll be part of the Project Controls team responsible for the development, implementation and use of the project’s construction schedule within the Integrated Work Schedule (IWS).


The Role
 

You’ll lead the planning of the construction works to form the Level 2 schedule by integrating approved schedules from multiple Contractors and adopting lessons learned from our Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, which is currently under construction. You’ll be accountable for forecasting the schedule and managing the site works, once construction starts, in order to accurately report the current position along with commentary around challenges and potential solutions.


Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:

 

  • Coordinating the schedule constraints of key suppliers, design houses, and alliances solving problems as required 
  • Ensuring the construction project schedules are updated, controlled and adhered to in line with agreed project standards/methods
  • Implementing the earned value progress measurement
  • Introducing and managing processes to promote and drive compliance, ensuring the consistent application of project scheduling processes and tools across the SZC Project
  • Identifying and resolving potential conflict/interactions across the different areas of the IWS
  • Maintaining the schedule change management processes
  • Supporting the production of monthly and ad hoc reports
  • Representing or supporting SZC with external stakeholders when needed
  • Assist in leading, coaching and supporting all project controls staff within the Programme 


The Skills
 

To be successful in this role you’ll be able to demonstrate:

 

  • A degree in Engineering, Construction, or another related field, preferably chartered
  • Substantial experience in a lead role within a project controls environment on a major complex nuclear construction project
  • The ability to clearly articulate complex issues and provide options to senior management and stakeholders within a corporate environment 
  • Knowledge of earned value analysis, along with risk and opportunity management techniques 
  • The ability to create concise narrative to support project reporting
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills including communication and influencing
  • People leadership skills
  • In-depth knowledge of processes for programme and project management in a major infrastructure environment
  • An understanding of industry-standard software, such as Primavera P6 and EcoSys
  • High level of analytical and numerical skills and good attention to detail


Desirable:

 

  • Familiarity of various contract types, in particular the NEC suite and FIDIC
  • Understanding of European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) design and experience in EPR operations
