Installation Design Engineer

You will be experienced in producing Installation Designs in a complex and multi-disciplined telecoms environment from Data Centres to Switches and Routers, WIFI Installs and Structured Cabling.  If this sounds like you and you are experienced in working in a highly regulated environment, then we want to hear from you.



Role Profile

  • Drive a culture based on nuclear safety and quality throughout the project, acting as a role model for the internal team and external interfaces.
  • Ensure that Installation Designs conform to the customer's H&S and quality requirements and meet the technical criteria set out by the Technical Design teams.
  • Find efficiencies in the production of documentation while maintaining quality and clarity.
  • Produce "Cradle to Grave" installation designs considering equipment protection, warehouse storage, dormancy post installation, maintenance and de-installation.
  • Understand and use Safety by Design principles throughout Installation Designs.
  • Produce Installation Designs for Core network equipment, transmission equipment, Radio (RF), Digital TV, Public Address and Voice Alert systems, Wi-Fi network, Terminal Equipment (desk telephones, wireless APs, CCTV cameras sound and light Beacons).
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BoMs) based on Installation Designs.
  • Make site visits and survey installation sites to assist with producing accurate designs.

Typical Deliverables

  • Prepare and maintain detailed Installation Guides.
  • Work closely with Technical Design Engineers to resolve design details or discrepancies.
  • Prepare Installation Guides of unusual, complex or original designs with a high degree of precision considering the environment, tooling, H&S, quality controls, auditing procedures and skill requirements.
  • Provide support for CAD engineers to ensure 2D and 3D designs are accurate and achievable.
  • Provide CAD engineers with accurate dimensions of telecommunications equipment and the installation environment.
  • Develop and maintain draft standards and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend suitable computer hardware and software which will allow efficiencies in the design process.
  • Production of Rack Face Layouts
  • Production of Cable Run Out Lists (CROLs)
  • Production of detailed Site Survey reports


Qualifications, Experience and person specifications:

  • Minimum 5 years telecommunications experience in an Installation Design role or in Field Operations activities (Exchange or Data Centre operational activities).
  • Demonstrable success in producing detailed Installation Designs documents
  • Strong team building skills
  • Broad technical knowledge in telecommunications products and solutions
  • Broad telecommunications industry knowledge
  • Experienced in the production of complex design solutions
  • A proven understanding of the below:
  • Cabling infrastructures within data centres.
  • Planning the installation of terminal devices (WiFi APs for example)
  • Planning the installation of Routers and Switches.
  • Cable management and cable infrastructure (cable containment)
  • The use of Excel, Word and Visio
  • Safety by Design principles
  • Quality Auditing process
  • A basic understanding of network design and connectivity
  • A basic knowledge of cable types and connectors

Terms and Conditions:

  • £30,000- £37,000 annual salary
  • 37.5 hours a week
  • Permanent Contract
