Viridor are recruiting for LGV Drivers to work with them on the Hinkley Point C Project.

Job Purpose : 


  • To drive and operate vehicles and equipment safely, compliantly and incident free and maximise profitability and efficiency.
  • To assist with the day to day running of the HPC waste contract, to ensure that it remains compliant to regulations and meets set contract targets.
  • Follow direct and written instructions from the Operations Supervisor and their appointed representatives.

Accountabilities : 


  • To collect material from around the HPC site and return it to the Waste Consolidation Centre (WCC).
  • To professionally represent Viridor, delivering an excellent customer experience at all times.
  • You will be required to follow site rules and complete all the relevant paper work for the site as required.
  • To ensure that waste brought onto the facility by the users is segregated as much as possible for recycling.
  • To operate relevant equipment and vehicles safely.
  • Collect materials from around site as per contractor and client instructions.
  • Adhere to legal requirements regarding driver’s hours, highway regulations, permits and legislation indicated by Line Management.
  • Ensure security of vehicles & equipment at all times.
  • Ensure completion of satisfactory daily records and all associated drivers paperwork.
  • Ensure safety is priority for yourself and other people, vehicles, equipment and plant.
  • Educate the client and contractors in the disposal and segregation of waste and recyclable material.
  • Proactively address complaints from contractors and resolve if possible.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe and compliant manner, adhering to all site rules.
  • Provide support in emergency situations whether these are actual incidents or testing.
  • Proactively report all near misses and provide practical solutions to prevent reoccurrence if possible. 
  • Ensure that team members carry out their duties in a safe, effective and timely manner.
  • Assisting with visits and audits from regulatory authorities and oversee undertaken inspections.
  • Reporting of defects to plant equipment and infrastructure that effect operational matters in a timely manner.
  • Provide where necessary financial information to the Contract Manager to assist with cost control for the business unit.
  • Achieve and maintain a realistic recycling target for the site, supporting the project KPI’s. 
  • You must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Driving 3.5ton van and skip truck to collect materials from around HPC site.
  • Operating plant in the waste consolidation area.
  • You may be required to undertake basic site repairs or drive plant machinery.
  • Effective employee management in a safe environment.
  • To oversee and effectively ensure that the quality of recyclable material is maintained.
  • Requirements may be needed to attend other operational units to cover or attend meetings or courses.
  • Ensure the Near Miss Pad is carried at all times and is used to identify any risk to yourself or others. 
  • Ensure that all Near Misses are reported as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • Receive instructions from the Operations Supervisor regarding collections/deliveries to be done and carry them out efficiently and safely in accordance with the site rules.
  • Pass to the Operations Supervisor, any factors affecting operations, observed or commented upon by contractors making any suggestions which may improve efficiency or service.
  • Use the correct equipment for the job and see that it is maintained correctly.
  • Produce Tachograph print out at end of each shift and ensure that hours and working arrangements are within legal limits and that manual entries are recorded accurately.
  • Take all necessary precautions for the safety of people, vehicles and equipment as per Health and Safety legislation. If in doubt on any aspect, ask your line manager for guidance.
  • Carry out Driver’s daily vehicle checks and fill out the paperwork correctly. 
  • Report all vehicle equipment/container faults immediately by the approved defect reporting system.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications : 



  • Experience of driving LGV vehicles in a commercial environment.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Category C or C+E
  • Driver CPC
  • Forklift or Material handler licence or experience
  • Thorough working knowledge of current legislation of LGV driver hours including WTD.
  • Understanding of environmental permitting requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety practices.
  • Understanding of plant machinery and ability to identify defects.
  • Understanding to methods and reasoning for segregation of waste and recycling.
  • Extensive knowledge of contract management and KPI’S.
  • To be able to follow management instructions.
  • Good communication skills
  • Good level of spoken and written English
  • Legible handwriting
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Hook Lift Vehicle operations
  • Box Tail-Lift Vehicles.
  • Health & safety

Trained on Compaction vehicles, Hook Lift Vehicles, Skip Loaders. Tail-lift vehicles
