Business Unit Overview
The Nuclear New Build (NNB) project team is leading an ambitious programme to build 4 European Pressurised Water Reactors (EPRs), the first new nuclear power stations in the UK since Sizewell B (which was commissioned in 1995). We are progressing plans to build 2 new reactors at Hinkley Point in Somerset and 2 more at Sizewell in Suffolk.

EDF Energy is at the heart of the UK’s new nuclear build programme. The nuclear power stations we plan to build will be the first in a new generation. The first station to be built will be Hinkley Point C, Somerset, sited next to Hinkley Point A and B stations. This will be followed by two new reactors at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Together these will form one of the biggest construction projects in Europe and they offer the chance to gain invaluable experience working with the latest reactor technology.


Site Engineering Overview
NNB Site Engineering acts as System Owner for a number of permanent and temporary systems and structures.  We manage design packages and the associated technical interfaces, as well as ensuring engineering quality through technical surveillance of work performed by external contract partners.  We also hold responsibility for the overall engineering coordination with other design packages both within NNB and the Responsible Designer (RD).

 

Path to Dome Lift Task Force Overview
The Path to Dome Lift Task Force is responsible for the delivery of design packages that are managed through the Permanent Civil Works Programme.
The position associated with this job description is for a CAD and 3D Modeller to assist the Engineering Leads.  Details of the role are as follows:


Principal Accountabilities 

  • Report directly to the Task Force Manager,
  • Support the Engineering Lead during the construction phase,
  • Produce 2D drawings and intelligent 3D models
  • Collect information and consolidate it,
  • Confirm that information is consistent with the Site Configuration,
  • Create detailed documented records and maintained them to ensure clarity of the process and outcomes,
  • Inform on the progress of the work allocated,
  • Assist with the identification and resolution of issues, and escalate to the manager if necessary,
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the site teams,
  • Manage the interfaces (technical & functional) within the Permanent Civil Works Programme,
  • Comply with NNB QA policies and procedures and Commit to use the project BIM standards,
  • Use SET model and drawing management system, tools and procedures.
  • Use of Tekla and Autocad
  • Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects,
  • Experienced in British and European Standards for civil works,
  • Experienced in detailed design studies,
  • Experienced in RC reinforcement detailing
  • Enhanced organisational skills,
  • General professional qualities as accuracy, tenacity, result-oriented and teamwork-oriented attitude, diplomacy,
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills notably with various levels of the organisation and externally,
  • Discretion - Confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information,
  • The individual would preferably be vetted to at least a basic level (BPSS).
  • Practical experience in design, drafting (both in 2D and 3D),
  • Knowledge of current 2D and 3D tools, especially Tekla and Autocad
  • Good working knowledge and previous practical experience of UK BIM level 2 standards and procedures
  • Confident to use own initiative when and if required
  • Experience of developing technical solutions, with design decisions validated through design interface.
  • Previous knowledge and experience in clash detection and CDE
  • Previous knowledge and experience of EIR and BEP

 

Duration & Location
The role will commence as soon as possible.  The individual will be required full-time for a period of 12 months. Following this, the role may be subject to further extension agreements.

The position will be located at Hinkley Point C Site.
