The Opportunity
 

Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. Its delivery will be reliant not only on innovative engineering and construction but also on the strongest of Leadership qualities amongst its Senior Project Managers. This is an excellent opportunity to not only support the project but also to provide leadership to ensure the effective delivery end to end schedule from the Civils Programme of HPC up to the turnover to operation.


As a Project Managers, you will be responsible for ensuring delivery of all (or part of) the engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities for the life cycle of the area in accordance with the overall Project schedule. You will also ensure planning and delivery is in accordance with all safety, quality, time, and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project.

The Person
 

  • The Project Managers will be accountable for the delivery of this schedule and will have appropriate empowerment to instruct the Programme contract multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) accordingly. They will be supported by representatives from the Programmes (Programme Area Leads, appointed by the Programme Directors, with delegation of authority sufficient to direct contract change as necessary). 
  • As an MDT PM, he will support the Area SPM in providing the direction, the challenge, the motivation, the coaching, and all of those leadership qualities that bind the project functions into a team to allow the MDT to work cooperatively toward common goals. 
  • As Planner makes sure that a comprehensive area plan is developed and accepted by the team, that responsibilities/accountabilities are assigned, and that the plan is kept up to date. 
  • As Integrator aligns the efforts of all contributing organisations into a cohesive team to cooperatively deliver the contract scope of services and meet the project expectations. Establishes Programme goals with stretched targets with the Programme team leadership for alignment and commitment.
  • As Interface Manager ensures all interfaces are clearly defined and ownership assigned. 
  • As Communicator makes sure that the area team, management, contractors, subcontractors, and customer have the information they need when they need it, and those formal channels are established to support the project communications plan. 
  • As Controller measures and controls the schedule, and deliverables against the area plan using the services of the project control’s function. High level breaks down for the role is as follows. 
  • C1 Turbine Halls – Turbine Halls and associated equipment including Turbine, generator condenser, moisture separator reheater, main feedwater pumps and tanks, main gantry and service cranes, cabling and I&C. Main steam pipes connecting to the Reactor Building. Cooling water pipework. Hydrazine and Ammonia building.
  • Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or PEP strategies within their contract or package of work
  • Drive the delivery of the area to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of the programme - track progress against milestones, deadlines and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters  
  • Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the interface management. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, develop, and update the programme and escalate any issues to the Area Senior Project Manager
  • Ensure that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members
  • Support the Area SPM in Identifying and driving all key enablers for the area and risks to be mitigated in order to deliver the area
  • Have level 3 and 4 schedules developed and maintained for the area. Ensure such schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules (levels 1 and level 2)


The Skills
 

Essential

 

  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, risk control, schedule and change management and facilitation.
  • Professional experience in managing multidisciplinary scopes and teams. 
  • Proven successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience of managing and track the delivery major projects from concept to handover, throughout the project lifecycle within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Energy sector, construction site or similar regulated environment
  • Demonstrate success in managing / developing: 
    • Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to construction up to handover 
    • Understanding of engineering design, contract and field execution strategies for project delivery, 
    • Hands-on knowledge and experience of construction activities (field management experience)
    • Understanding the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled. 
  • Experience of engaging groups of stakeholders. 
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment. 
  • Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. 
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks. 
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations. 


Desirable 

 

  • Detailed understanding of turbine hall.
  • Degree and chartered status in mechanical or process engineering/construction. 
  • Working knowledge of French language, a plus.
