Area Construction Lead
PAYE Contract (+ 33 days paid leave) 


Area Construction Leads shall be established within the Area MDATs, (reporting to the Senior Area Project Manager) for day to day delivery of the relevant area, and matrixed to the Site Construction Director for site wide and functional issues.

Other construction resources will remain in the contract MDTs, responsible to the contract Project Manager for the management of work on site, but matrixed to the Area Construction Leads for direction on co-ordination, site compliance issues and functional (SQEP/Pay & Rations) issues.

The Area Construction Lead will support the Senior Area Project Manager in developing the integrated plan (with construction subject matter expertise). They will act as the agent of the Senior Area Project Manager for the delivery of the plan on site, providing the continuity from the development of the plan through to delivery of the plan.  Where perturbations occur in delivering the integrated plan, they will instruct the contract Project Managers as necessary (utilising the update change management process) to secure mitigation.

Principal Accountabilities
• Drive the near term area Integrated Work Schedule.
• Identify any near term integration issues or scope gaps that may impact the near term plan and escalate/direct to the appropriate PM for inclusion into the appropriate contract.
• Support the establishment of an area construction organisation, capable of integrating and delivering the work scope, with clear roles and responsibilities and delivery accountabilities.
• Support the development and maintenance of an area definition document (ADD), setting out how the area of work will be managed, organised and executed. The ADD sets out the "why", "what", "how", "when" and "who" for the delivery of the area,
• Drive the delivery of the area activities to ensure they are delivered safely, on time, meeting business & technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of the area - track progress against milestones, deadlines and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
• Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the area. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, develop, and escalate any issues to the Senior Construction Lead. Monitor and adjust the execution plan where issues arise to ensure the overall area schedule is achieved.
• Support development of level 3 and 4 schedule maintained for the area. Ensure such schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules (levels 1 and level 2).
• Interface with other areas to ensure overall near term view of how the total project is progressing and to identify and adopt the use of best practice,
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members.


Qualifications and Experience:

Associated construction qualifications.

• Able to demonstrate strong management skills including construction management, commercial management, change management, facilitation and integration.
• Minimum 10-years professional experience in managing construction teams.
• Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
• Demonstrate success in managing / developing:
• Construction execution strategies for project delivery,
• Multi-discipline EPCM projects,
• Hands-on knowledge and experience of construction activities (field management experience)
• Knowledge of procurement and management of contracts,
• Knowledge and experience of Control of costs; risk; schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools,
• Strong proficiency in Value Engineering.
• Understanding the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled.
• Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.
• Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment.
• Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.

  • Located at Hinkley Point C.
