EDF Energy have a new opportunity available for an experienced Project Manager to join our team at Bridgewater House in Bristol. The values of our projects can range from £2-3m to greater than £100m. We are offering an opportunity to demonstrate the strongest leadership qualities amongst the Project Management Function. The role is required to ensure effective delivery of the Equipment Programme of HPC, whilst recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project.

The Project Manager reports directly to the Delivery Manager and is responsible for the direction and leadership of activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of a contract(s) or work package(s) assigned to them. This post will ensure planning and delivery is in accordance with all safety, quality, time and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project.

Your duties will include:


  • Ensuring delivery of all engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning activities for the life cycle of the contract or work package is in accordance with the overall project schedule. This will include monthly reporting of project progress and weekly coordination meetings.
  • Interacting with EDF Design Partners in the UK and France, multiple Suppliers, including our wider functions such as Site Construction Team, this may involve the management of design in France or the UK both and coordinate the commercial and construction resources.
  • Write, develop and implement strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan, setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed.
  • Drive the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely, on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.

The Person

We are seeking an individual that will have strong planning and organisation skills including the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously. You will demonstrate determination and focus to drive projects through to implementation. To be appointed in the role you will have the ability to cope in a technically complex and fast-changing environment, and be able to respond calmly and rationally to changing aspirations in a deadline-driven situation. You will apply a project and engineering management approach to activities relating to design principles and system design which are undertaken by the by various design partners, and suppliers. Be responsible for setting up the longer term plans, and translating, managing a near term work plan to drive the delivery of work on a week by week basis.

As a Project Manager you will demonstrate success in managing the delivery of:


  • Multi-discipline EPCM projects.
  • Facilitating equivalence in technical standards across industries and or geographies is a major positive but not essential.
  • Procurement and management of utilising standard forms of contract.
  • Engineering design, contract and field execution strategies for project delivery.
  • Managing Project Controls - costs, risk, schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools.
  • Management and or knowledge of executing under standard commercial contracts, and or be-spoke contracts for industry.

The Skills

The successful candidate will have they key skills and experience required:


  • You will be degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, physics or other related field.
  • Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally possess a Large Process Industry (chemicals, Oil, Gas), Rail, or Nuclear Energy sector in a similar regulated environment.
  • Previous experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders through a gated execution model.
  • Ability to understand the needs of quality systems (QA/QC) and how nuclear quality should utilise these.
  • Understands Safety case, and has contributed/organised previous safety reviews such as HAZOP, FMEA, ALARP, PCSR, CDM.
  • Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skill including organisational skills with experience of developing relationships and maintaining effective networks.
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment. Including NEC or FIDIC contracts.
  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.
