The Opportunity 


Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the most exciting infrastructure project in the UK and has a number of permanent Project Manager and Senior Project Manager roles to be based at Bridgewater House in Bristol initially. In future, the roles will move to the HPC Site at Hinkley Point, Somerset.   

These roles are within the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) Programme and report to the MEH Deputy Programme Director. They are responsible for the direction and leadership of activities associated with scopes of work up to £500M, either within the MEH programme, or in its integration across the HPC project.

These posts are generally responsible for scoping, planning and executing scopes of work, generally either through strategic suppliers or through the MEH Alliance; the Alliance is formed between HPC and JV companies and strategic suppliers, and covers the full scope of the MEH programme. Ensuring work is planned and delivered in accordance with all safety, quality, time and cost parameters to meet the needs of the Project is the primary objective.

More detailed duties are as follows:-


  • Define the work scope to be delivered within the HPC Site, based on the contract or package of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme.
  • Securing the required resources to meet their project requirements, ensuring the maintenance of SQEP for any assigned resource and promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within their project team.
  • Developing and delivering effective execution strategies and plans in the form of a Project Definition Document (PjDD) in line with the overall Programme Definition Document (PgDD), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed. Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or programme strategies within their scope of work.
  • Drive the delivery of the activities contained within the task order, ensuring that outputs are delivered safely, on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of works - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
  • Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the task order. Identify and manage risks & opportunities.
  • Develop, manage & own schedule for the work areas using Project Controls support. Ensure such schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules (levels 1 and level 2)..
  • Interface with other programmes to ensure that handoffs between programmes is well developed, understood and managed.
  • Certain roles may be deployed to event recovery and/or risk/opportunity development as priorities dictate. 

The Person

  • The successful candidate will be a natural collaborator, whilst displaying a determination and resilience needed to deliver in complex environments. 
  • Leadership is crucial as these roles will be required to establish and lead diverse project teams to deliver activities within their area of responsibility within the context of a highly challenging and complex overall project.

The Skills

You will experience of delivering large scale projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.

You will need to:


  • Demonstrate success in managing / developing:
  • Field execution strategies for project delivery,
  • Multi-discipline EPCM projects,
  • Procurement and management of complex contracts, or working as part of an Alliance/JV
  • Control of costs; risk; schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools,
  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
  • A strong background in engineering, construction, physics or other related field.
  • Have experience of working with a UK supply chain.
  • Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to handover.
