As we continue to expand and grow, we are seeking a Sales Manager to work within our Bridgwater office. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this key role would form part of the Senior Management Team. The main responsibility of the role is the management of Sales and Estimating with an aim to develop the department, generating the maximum number of profitable sales and ensuring it meets the business’ strategic objectives.

There will be an expectation to increase customer acquisition through new markets, contributing to market share growth, give business direction and contribute to the overall performance of Berry & Escott’s business.

The role of the Sales Manager for Berry & Escott has full P&L responsibility for implementing sales strategies and corresponding input into business plans to drive growth in sales, profitability, and cash generation. Providing budgets and forecasts and taking a positive active role in shaping the business strategy utilising/generating USPs is a key part of this role.



Part of the role will be to develop the Sales Team in line with business organisational development requirements, particularly regarding capabilities/competencies and values/behaviours.

Perform other duties which Berry & Escott may reasonably require from time to time. Please note that although this role is based in the Southwest, national travel will be a requirement, with the occasional night(s) away from home.

Skills and Attributes:

The ideal person will be able to demonstrate team building, leadership, influencing and empowerment capabilities across the Sales Team and other internal stakeholders, as well as innovative problem-solving, analysis, presentation, and negotiation skills. Thriving in a challenging, result-driven work environment with the ability to contribute and maintain a happy and productive team is key.


It is vital that this person can establish and develop strong, long-lasting relationships through strong communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including new and existing customers, industry bodies, and suppliers. Specific skills such as negotiation, presenting and business contractual conditions are fundamental for this role.

The role will require a highly motivated person with strong customer and market focus and therefore the right attitude is the most important attribute. Coupled with exceptional organisation capabilities the person should have an ability to take on information, appropriately interpret and use in decision making. A sense of awareness, openness, focus on continuous improvement with the ability to look back at achievements are other qualities we are looking for.



Specific Expertise

Significant experience of leading with a Sales and Marketing Strategy is crucial and it is essential that the person has strong sales experience with a commercial and/or industrial bias. Significant affinity and knowledge of the engineering business-specialised markets, its technologies, services, and products across the range of industry applications is necessary, with nuclear knowledge being an advantage but not essential.




Qualifications and Experience

Degree level education (or equivalent experience), together with 10 years significant sales management experience in similar roles/industries, with a proven track record of increasing sales. Contractual experience (typically NEC3/4 and FIDIC) is desirable.
