Job Title : Bars Manager


Overall Purpose of the Job:


To lead and manage all operations of all Campus bars, supporting and guiding the team for the highest attainable standards in the provision of excellent facilities, product/brand quality and customer service and hospitality, whilst implementing and managing agreed strategic initiatives to achieve operational effectiveness, business objectives and maximise business revenue and profit.


Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Duties:  
 

Strategic

 

  • Contribute towards strategic planning, implementing the relevant aspects for the success of the operation, in agreement with the Food & Beverage Operations Manager and other colleagues as appropriate, whilst continuously monitoring opportunities for further improvement/development of operations and services.
  • Liaise and network actively with colleagues, suppliers and professional associates, establishing positive and proactive relationships with stakeholders to enable sharing  initiatives and solutions in the continuous development/improvement of South West Larder operations and services, and for the attainment of financial aims and other strategic objectives.


Operational

 

  • Lead and co-ordinate services throughout all bar and events, ensuring team members are motivated and demonstrating excellent hospitality and service operating standards.
  • Ensure hospitality services are carefully planned by the supervisors and staff and are delivered to the customer’s requirements and agreed quality standards.
  • Be accountable for the attainment of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) within South West Larder, as agreed in line with the Strategic Aims and Business Objectives, producing a periodic budgetary report (as agreed) for discussion-review with the Food & Beverage  Operations Manager and Operations Director.
  • Monitor expenditure and income aligned to agreed budgets, reactively and proactively responding to ensure financial efficiency and effectiveness  across all bars with the aim of achieving targets for revenue and profit, in line with strategic aims and KPIs.
  • Oversee the management of stock control and purchasing of goods for South West Larder bars, liaising with the Operations Director, ensuring ‘best value’ for purchased goods.
  • Undertake the leadership for Health and Safety for all South West Larder bars, ensuring Health & Safety requirements are discussed and clarified with team members and key personnel which must be implemented consistently, incorporating up-to-date legal compliance and best practice in line with policy and procedure.
  • Liaises with Food & Beverage Managers to agree staffing needs for bars.  Provides feedback on staff performance, operational abilities and customer interactions.
  • Undertake responsibility to ensure regular staff meetings occur for the South West Larder teams and, as far as possible, that professional communication, follow-up actions and meaningful feedback is given on an assured, consistent basis
  • Participate alongside management colleagues in a regularly convened staff forums, to establish, agree and implement consistently high standards of food and alcohol, and overall operating service throughout South West Larder
  • Liaise effectively and supportively with all colleagues and managers in South West Larder in the interests of contributing to a professional work environment
  • Be the ‘Designated Premises Supervisor’ as required within a specified area, ensuring that licensable activities relating to the trading of alcohol are carried out lawfully and in co-operation with the licensing authorities.
  • Assist across the operational boundaries within Hospitality & Events as and when agreed, in-keeping with the role and/or working development opportunities.


Development

 

  • Assist with the development and undertake implementation of policies for catering service across the bars, under the guidance of the Food & Beverage Operations Manager. 
  • In conjunction with the F&B Operations Manager and Operations Director, develop training and development plans for bar services, to maintain and monitor staff skills and production and service standards.
  • Maintain a ‘continuous improvement’ ethos for the service across the bars, raising awareness amongst the team of product development and service initiatives.
  • Identify and discuss opportunities for operating and service development with the Food & Beverage Operations Manager.

  • Understands financial information and uses this to effectively manage the Bar operations(e.g. cost control, budgets, stock)    
  • Able to interpret, understand and implement strategic information 
  • Demonstrable professional skills and knowledge gained through relevant industry experience
